Natural Landmarks

Natural Landmark.jpg

Materials:

Nature Journal, writing utensil of choice, a local natural landmark or lookout point

Activity:

Visit a local natural landmark. Talk about the forces that have shaped the land and take time to make landscape drawings of your location.

Younger:

Young children may be too excited or in awe to be able to focus on an entry. That’s wonderful! Have them record what they remember from the trip later or just describe it to you on the way home. Part of nature study is purely to create a love for and wonder of the natural world.

Older:

Have older children look at the surrounding landscape and write down observations and questions they have about how it was shaped.

Take it Further:

Do a mini-lesson on erosion and landforms or the history of the landmark you visited.
