10 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day!

If you are new to this holiday try one of the activities below to celebrate our beautiful planet!

  1. Make cute earth day cookies like these from Beyond the Butter or if you are not “royal icing” fancy just whip up your favorite sugar cookie recipe use some round cookie cutters and let the kids go wild with blue and green buttercream frosting (they’ll taste just as good even if they are not as pretty.

  2. Enjoy this free “Love the Earth Coloring Sheet” and talk about ways we can be good stewards ofthe earth.

  3. Watch a Netflix (or Disney+, Amazon prime, etc) documentary about wildlife. A BEAUTIFUL and compelling new one is called “A Life on Our Planet” and is somewhat of an autobiography of David Attenborough and his life’s work in nature conservation. (Trailer below) or this cute one made by my boys! (Full video below Sir David Attenborough’s documentary)

  4. GET OUTSIDE! Go and enjoy nature with your family. Children benefit from quality AND quantity time outdoors. All these wonderful memories they build playing in the wind and listening to the birds will form a part of their soul. They will have a real and personal connection to the earth and take better care of it as adults because of it.

  5. Commit to one way you can live greener this year. Reusable shopping bags? Reef safe sunscreen? Maybe you can start a compost pile, recycle, or shop local? Brainstorm together as a family a way you work together to create less waste or dispose of it responsibly.

  6. Do a community service project and pick up a park. Wear gloves and supervise your kids closely but this is a great way to show you care and pick up your environment.

  7. Have the kids make a poster about the earth. Either something they LOVE about our planet or a way that we can care for it then share pictures of their poster on social media. If you are feeling extra ambitous have them make a cute little video like this for tik-tok or Instagram.

  8. Take a little time to learn about landforms, biomes, animals, local plants. Just something new about our natural world.

  9. Do a little geography by playing “where in the world” where you describe a place they would know and they have to guess where you are talking about.

  10. Donate to a cause that is important to you whether it’s wildlife conservation, helping people get access to clean water or research on green energy alternatives. Just one thing that will make the world a better place with your support.
