These biome cards are a great introduction to the biomes of the earth.
The 18 cards cover 12 biomes and the 6 parts of a biome and can be used for many lessons to introduce this whole view way of teaching about the world commonly found through the montessori method of teaching. The picture and name on the front of the card introduce the concept of biomes and vocabulary that goes with it. With two decks they can be cut into 3 part cards to use for memorization. Once the child is familiar with the biomes of the earth they can learn more about the realtive temperature and moisture of each biome and sort the cards accordingly. They can then read or copy brief descriptions of the biome and fill in the map with where the biomes are found on earth. The parts of the biome cards are used as a precurser to help the children learn what a biome is and how it works as a system. You’ll visit your favorite nature area and make observations in your own home biome the child can write their observations or you can record their narrations and refer back to them as you learn about the differences between the major biomes of the earth and the one that you live in.
