Where doees Chocolate Come From?
This mini-lesson is all about chocolate and where it comes from. You'll learn the basic stages of its production, a little history, and enjoy (as well as be surprised by!) a taste test. Full lesson instructions included. You'll review the layers of the rainforest, learn about the cacao tree and practice recording your taste test opinions on a scale. It is easily incorporated into a South American continent study, a valentines fun activity, or in a food science class! It is only about 15 minutes from start to finish and is very interactive.
I have now updated it to include a labeled "plate" to show the different stages and forms of chocolate during the taste test, a chocolate stage matching worksheet, and an optional fair trade lesson with a cocoa bean production mapping activity.
This lesson will be included in the South America Unit.
